a little fluff

Talking design, fashion, and my day-to-day life allows me to step away from the news for a bit. It's so hard to jump over to the blog and prep this post as if the world isn't in shambles, but I think we all need to do what's best for us mentally to continue fighting the good fight and standing up for what's right. As Krys from Melodrama said on her Instagram stories:

Pray if you need to. Self care if you need to. Take a mental health day if you need to. But after that, channel your sadness into actions for change. Make calls, donate blood, donate money, protest, be a voice for good. And never let terror win.

I'll share a few links at the bottom on how you can be of help if you're not in Las Vegas, but for now let’s fill the next few minutes with a little fluff while I share some tips on choosing and mixing pillows for your sofa!

1. Size

Mixing in a few sizes can add a big variety to your sofa pillows! Depending on your sofa size, you’ll want somewhere between 3 and 6 pillows for a finished look. Some go- to options are...

  • two large, two medium, one small - My tried and true favorite. The more, the merrier.
  • two large, one medium - This option is great for smaller sofas or settees . I like the idea of varying things up with a different shape or pattern for one of the pillows!
  • one large, one medium, one small - This can easily be the most eclectic option! Great for lovers of vintage or handmade since you only need one of each!

2.  Color + Pattern

To add a little extra oomph to your layout you can play with color and pattern in your pillows. Play with bold colors and patterns versus black and white (or neutral on neutral) and see what works best with your home.

3. Texture

Another way to approach your pillows is to layer in tons of texture through different materials and details like fringe and beads. Adding some contrast between things that are a little formal (like velvet) and things that are bohemian (like shag) can be a fun way to play with juxtaposition.

Throw pillows are a great way to 'tszuj' up your space for the seasons, the holidays, or for a nice change of pace without spending a ton of money. Sometimes we all need a little fluff in our lives to help ourselves get through tough times!

For ways to help others after the Las Vegas tragedy: call your representative about gun control, donate to verified fundraisers, and (if you have AT&T) text "VEGAS" to 50555 to donate $10 directly to UMFC. Show your support and your resilience by using your actions to fight for gun control and against terrorism. xo
