Halloween is one of my favorite holidays! This year, I didn't have the opportunity to dress up for any parties, eat too much candy, or go to a Haunted House or anything. It was a pretty low key day. I was mentally preparing for the my housewarming/best-friends birthday party the day after. That is a story all in itself.
I spent all of November 1st cooking, cleaning and prepping for the folks who would be stopping by my apartment later that night. I made Sarah a cake from scratch, made dips for chip, prepped all the munchies, and tried not to cry while doing it all. It ended up being a pretty good success! My mom stopped by to help me figure out where everything would live and what not. Almost 40 people squeezed into my tiny apartment to celebrate with me!
Oh - right...what I really wanted to share with you is the reason why we were celebrating.
I AM ENGAGED!!
(Funny story - Nobody ended up using the photobooth. It was awkwardly just a tripod/camera set at the foot of my bed. As if that's not a welcoming view for all guests.....le-sigh.)
Brandon asked me to marry him October 30, 2013. I came home from work like any other day, and there was the ring. Tied on a string around my cats neck. I immediately hugged Brandon and started to cry while he blurted out, "Courtney - will you marry me?" . AHHHHH! Six years of dating and maybe a little hinting (the ring may or may not have been sent to his e-mail) and he finally asked! I couldn't wait to tell everyone! My mom suggested I wait until tonight to tell everyone since my family was going to be together celebrating my grandma's birthday. Now that most of my close friends and family know, I can finally share with everyone! I couldn't even blog in the meantime. I knew I would blurt it out. I'm pretty sure I've disappeared from all social media for the past few days to be honest.
The ring is 14k yellow and white gold. It's made by a Canadian Etsy seller - I'll be sure to share the link later. Most people have been surprised there's no diamond. Well, that's simple: I didn't want a diamond. Nope - none for me. I kept trying on fake diamond rings and trying to wear them, but they're just not me. I like how it's subtle, simple, and matches any jewelry I choose to wear. It's perfect.
Some people knew about the engagement before the apartment-warming party, others did not. It was a great time to tell people face to face! Brandon and I did receive some awesome gifts (this plant c/o Twelve Chairs), sentiments, and treats from tons of people who attended and we literally can't thank you enough! Despite the noise complaints we received from our neighbors, the party was a huge success!
As of yesterday, we're pooped. No more parties for quite a while. The mix of vodka Shirley Temples, being on a sugar high, and staying up chatting with old friends until 2 AM really took it's toll on me...and apparently Oliver too.
