The Harvest season has been upon us now for a few week now (and in my opinion, there is no better time for decorations)! Mother nature flaunts her amazing natural color pallets, a crisp change in the air, leaves on the ground, and most importantly,Halloween!
My mother, like most, loves nothing more than decorating our home for the seasons. While cruising her newest obsession, Pinterest, she found a beautifully monogrammed pumpkin and knew instantly we must add our own to the fall decor collection! Happily I offered my hand (literally) in the project.
Here is how simple, inexpensive, cute and fun this DIY is:
Step 1: Go to any local craft supply store and pick yourself a nice carvable craft pumpkin. They come in all different shapes, sizes, prices, and they adorably even different life-like bumps and lumps on them.
(We found our "Fun-kin" at A.C. Moore on sale for $10.99)
Step 2: In pencil make a rough outline of your design of choice, we clearly chose an "M" in a simple, yet elegant script for Morris; my last name.
Step 3: Choose your medium, acrylic paint, glitter glue, ecta.. For an easy fast drying medium the new Sharpie paint pens ($2.45 anywhere) worked wonders, they can write on virtually any surface, which is great because like a real pumpkin, the craft pumpkins do have some texture. I must note that these pens get take a little while to ink-up, so be prepared for that..
Step 4: Have at it!!! Go wild!
Step 5: You're done! It took me a little over a half hour to complete this "M" slowly adding thickness from my original outline, making sure to blend any short sharp lines, and so on. I'm still not completely sure if my lines should be bolder, I must say however, I am super proud of how it came out! Not bad for a non-calligrapher eh?!!
