Picture this: a backyard wedding, a small bridal party, a simple buffet, neutral toned DIY decor, a pretty dress, gorgeous flowers, and a happy couple. It's what I've been dreaming of since I was little. With a wedding in the works for Spring 2015, I've started prepping and planning with Brandon, and it's not quite all it's wrapped up to be.
Why is it that this small, imaginary, DIY wedding is adding up to more than a down payment on a house, a years worth of cat food, 6 months of gas, plus tip? I'm losing my mind trying to fathom how to pay for all of these things. My dream of Rifle Paper Co. invites, Foret flowers, a Delphine Manivet gown, and BHLDN favors are out the window.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not afraid of an ugly wedding. I pride myself in being pretty good at a) hiding messes and b) making spaces look appealing. If you don't believe me, ask any of my friends about my closet sized first apartment. There, I made an entire living room out of an entryway. A wedding is proving to be a smidge harder to pull off, but the more I sit in pity about what I can't afford, the more I'm missing opportunities to be more hands on. I'm quickly learning that this is my chance to create my own floral arrangements, research more paper companies who are just as creative as Rifle + personally make my wedding favors. Also - I get the opportunity to share it all on the blog!
Luckily, Brandon shares the same mindset as I do. We just want to be able to enjoy everyone's company and be sure everyone feels comfortable. Most of all, we want to have fun. After the big day, the guests aren't going to remember that the plates had a gold rim but the silverware is silver (although it's killing me!), that my dress wasn't from this season or made by a famous designer, and they also won't remember that their invites weren't custom illustrations of Brandon and I. That's it. I'm done worrying about it. Let the fun side of planning BEGIN!
