There's nothing like a little girl time. I spent this past weekend frolicking around Brooklyn and Manhattan with three of my best friends. I was having so much fun that I forgot to photograph it all! We went to a house party, sang karaoke, shopped, drank bottles of wine, indulged in cake, and had endless late-night conversations. It was the perfect mix of events.
I have to share a few favorite spots from our weekend adventure! We ate a clam pizza at Lombardi's in Manhattan, split giant slices of cake at Little Cupcake Bakeshop nearby, and zipped over to the pricy (but delicious) Oficina Latina for margaritas. Uhm - YUM! The last of our food-cation was at Dough - my absolute favoooorite donut place.
My friend Emily (apt shown above) has lived in Brooklyn for a bit now, so she had a few hidden gems to share. One of them was a fantastically trashy karaoke bar in Korea-Town called Gagopa. It's a BYOB spot where you rent your own private karaoke room and belt your song choices to your heart's content. This is totally out of character for my friends and I, but OMG - it was so much fun! We all sounded better than the originals, though that may be the wine talking.
Today I'm feeling a little full, exhausted, and sore from all the walking but I am so happy we were able to squeeze so much into our short time in the city! We even made it over to the Brooklyn Flea Market. Can you believe it was my first time there? I grabbed a set of 5 lucite drawer pulls for a vintage cabinet I have for only $40! It took all of my self control to not buy everything else. I highly recommend visiting that on your next trip to NYC.
One of the things I re-learn every time I'm in the city is how overwhelming it is! I fall for the pretty lights, never-ending events, and delicious food each time I visit....but by the time my bus comes, I'm so ready to go home and sleep. Le-yawnnnnnnnn.
JUMP FOR JOY! Summer (weather) is finally here!
Today's hike was a bit of a bust. Brandon and I didn't make it nearly as far as we wanted to. (There were a lot of bugs....like, a lot of bugs. We were practically setting ourselves up for a mix of lime disease and west nile virus....ICK!) We did start the day off with a lovely inaugural trip to MaryLou's Coffee though. I still can't believe we had never been before. It was delicious!
We finished up the morning with some errands and a quick trip to Savers before I came back to the apartment to work from home for a few hours. Twelve Chairs changed to our Summer Hours, so I get to work from home on Mondays instead of going in on Saturdays now. It was the best way to start my work week - now I'm prepped and ready for the days to come. Weee!

Brandon and I have discovered our love for hiking this past Monday. We found a local trail and made plans to complete it first thing in the morning! We arrived to the trail at 10:30AM and quickly found that we were the only two there. Although we didn't complete it on our first try, we discovered so many beautiful spots along the way! (We've even decided to use one of the trails for our Fall engagement photos!)
New England is kind of a funny place. The trail goes thru woods, fields, ponds, farms, and power-lines....none of which surprised us! We've decided to make it a weekly thing, and we're going to try our best to get a little further each time.

Well, we did it. We finally took a few photos we thought were blog-worthy! Brittany and I are queens of the "selfie", but we had almost no pictures of the both of us that weren't from an iPhone. Since we've been in the process of re-working the blog (and it's still in process!) we realized that we should probably update our blog photo.
Here are some outtakes, test shots, and just for fun photos!
Today's weather was fantastic! I met up with some friends of mine and explored Colt State Park in Bristol, RI. It was a great way to burn off some of my Easter candy weight and see three of my best friends!
One of the things we talked about was how lucky we are to have grown up near such a pretty state park. There are certain things that you take for granted since you become so accustomed to seeing them and used to visiting them. This is probably at the top of our list. We only live about 20 minutes away from Colt State, and it's amazing.
My friends Sarah, Emily and Meagan have been around since Junior High School. It's incredible to me that my friend group has barely changed since then. I'm lucky enough to have such a tight knit group, and we all still try to get together as much as possible. Of course...work, boys, school, and life have gotten in the way a little, but we've managed to all make time for each other. Ahhh, my friends are the best. I know everyone says that, but really.....mine are.

We're suckers for a good backdrop. Not much makes for a better photo than a fun background, cute props, and good friends. Last night, we had Brandon's co-workers and brother over for a "get your mind off of the crap that's happening outside of this apt" night. It was necessary, and worked like magic.
Courtney is finally hosting her apartment warming party this upcoming Friday, and she set up this Americana backdrop for said party. (Check back this week for a DIY on how to set up your own photobooth!) We decided to try it out for ourselves last night and make sure it was going to work A-OK!
We found that other than some poor photography skills (ahem - Cam...) this backdrop was fabuloso!
There are few things in life that are more fun than window shopping and drinking coffees with your best-friend. By the way, BB readers: meet Sarah, my best friend since I was 5 years old. Crazy - I know! Anyways... that's just what we did the other day! If you're anywhere near Dartmouth, MA (or even if you're not) you may have heard of the Chippi from Mirasol's Cafe. It's something like a caffeinated coffee-milk drink. If you've never had coffee-milk, I guess I would describe the taste as melted coffee ice cream. All that's important here is that WE HAD OUR FIRST CHIPPIS! This is a big deal for most of Southeastern, MA residents. No regrets in that decision either - they were DELLLLLICIOUS!
We took our Chippis with us to the nearby mall, window shopped (and maybe a little real shopping too) and then went to celebrate my Dad's 50th B-Day a few towns over. As it was a surprise birthday party, we arrived a little too early and decided to check out the nearby playground...
We stumbled upon greatness. Pure vintage bliss. This two floor abode is located in Uxbridge, MA. Items are priced to sell... And we definitely bought enough. I'm already dying to go back.
When we headed back to Britt's place, we played with some animals...
Including a chinchilla named Caesar.
The boys played in the pool while we decorated Brittany's bedroom in her new house (photos coming soon!!)
Not only am I itching to go back to the shop, I'm dying to go swimming, play with Brittany's puppies, chinchillas, and whatever other animals she may be hiding from me. It was such a fun weekend!
These posts are great for me. I love actually having photographs of my friends and the stupid stuff we do. In this case, we went to a dive bar near Brittany's home town. "Friend Dates" force me to snap my camera in people's faces and capture the moment as is.
Budgeted Bliss has a new contributer - Miss Brittany Morris! Brittany and I met when we first started college for fashion, and genuinely did not like one another before we had ever even spoken. I thought she dressed cute and in my head, that meant she was a bitch. She thought Brandon and I were a snobby hipster couple, and didn't want anything to do with us. Jealousy is kind of a funny thing! Anyways, we finally spoke to one another through a mutual friend (about a week before I transferred schools) and haven't stopped talking since. We're the same person, just different heights.
Last night started as many other have, with a pre-game card game and a chilly walk to a too-full "bro" bar, only to meet some random folks and play with sparklers. Actually, this is so unlike us. We normally buy a 6 pack of beers, put on a record and pet Oliver. Last night was a special occasion as it was Britt's bestfriend's BDAY! Happy Birthday Lauren! And welcome to Budgeted Bliss Britt!
